Lighting Technician

Reports to: Head of Lighting and Media, Master Electrician
Compensation: $20-25 per hour  
Position Type: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-exempt, Temporary Position (Duration Based on Production Needs)  
Position Summary: The Lighting Technician is primarily responsible for installing and operating lighting equipment to support live performances. This role involves setting up, rigging, and focusing lights according to pre-established lighting designs, ensuring the equipment functions correctly and meets safety standards. The technician will work closely with the Master Electrician and technical team to execute the lighting plan, run tests, troubleshoot issues, and maintain equipment throughout rehearsals and performances. Attention to detail, strong technical skills, and adherence to safety protocols are essential for this role, as is the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.  

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Installation and Setup:

  • Work with Master Electrician to install lighting equipment.
  • Ensuring all electrical equipment is safely and properly connected.
  • Setting up and programming lighting control systems and consoles.

Technical Rehearsals:

  • Work closely with the Master Electrician during rehearsals to make adjustments and troubleshoot issues.

Maintenance and Operation:

  • Conducting regular maintenance checks on lighting equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Troubleshooting any electrical problems that arise during the run of the show.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensuring all electrical installations meet safety regulations and codes.
  • Implementing safety protocols for handling and operating electrical equipment.  

Skills and Qualifications:  

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional working experience.
  • Experience in Job Type: Live production
  • Skills Required: A strong technical knowledge of lighting equipment and rigging, attention to detail, problem- solving abilities, and adherence to safety protocols, along with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
