The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is pleased to announce auditions for their upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. All roles are open and will be paid. This page will be updated when callback invitations and casting have been sent.

What happens when the world around you begins to shift? Tevye, a devoted father and milkman, must navigate love, family, and faith in a changing Russia. With a soaring score including “Tradition” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” this celebrated musical is a poignant and powerful tale of endurance, hope, and TRADITION!

The initial audition for Fiddler on the Roof will be held only by video submission

Fiddler Audition

To be considered for the character of Fiddler, please submit a violin selection in the style of the show that shows your skill level and complete the audition form. No other audition materials are required.

Vocal Selection

All Auditioners: Please film yourself performing a 1-minute song in the style of the show that shows character. Please sing with piano accompaniment or backing tracks.

Callbacks - 

Callbacks will be held in-person and are scheduled for the Saturday, August 16, 2025. Callbacks will be by invitation only.

Rehearsals & Performances - 

Rehearsals will begin on or around October 25th, 2025.

Tevye

Male Presenting, able to play 40s-50s
Vocal Range: Ab2-F4

The Dairyman, delivers milk and cheese. Golde’s husband; down to earth devoted to his family, God and his Jewish religion. Wants learned men for his daughters. Vocal range: Ab2-F4

Golde

Female Presenting, able to play 40s
Vocal Range: A3-Eb5

Tevye's wife; down to earth, very practical. Worried about her daughters getting good husbands.

Tzeitel

Female Presenting, able to play early 20s (not yet 20)
Vocal Range: B3-D5

Oldest daughter of Tevye and Golde. Hopeful and in love with Motel, the tailor.

Hodel

Female Presenting; able to play late teens
Vocal Range: B3-E5

Second daughter of Tevye and Golde. Has spirit and intelligence. In love with Perchik, the student.

Chava

Female Presenting; able to play mid-teens
Vocal Range: B3-D5

Third daughter of Tevye and Golde. Enjoys reading. In love with Fyedka, a non-Jew.

Sprintze

Female Presenting; able to play early teens
Vocal Range: B3-D5

Fourth daughter of Tevye and Golde.

Bielke

Female Presenting; able to play 9-12 years
Vocal Range: B3-D5

Fifth daughter of Tevye and Golde.

Lazar Wolf

Male Presenting; able to play 50s-60s
Vocal Range: C3-F#4

The butcher, a good man and wealthy. Lonely, he is a widower.

Mordcha

Male Presenting; able to play 30s-50s
The innkeeper; serves both the Russian and the Jewish community.

Rabbi

Male Presenting; able to play 50s-70s
Peacemaker, wish, ironic sense of humor.

Avram

Male Presenting; able to play ages 30s-50s
Vocal Range: D3-Eb4

The bookseller; probably is the bringer of news to the village.

Nachum

Male Presenting; able to play ages 30s-60s
The village beggar. Will also be a bottle dancer at the wedding.

Yente

Female Presenting; able to play 50s-70s
Vocal Range: F3-F5

The meddling matchmaker. She is a widow and village busybody who knows all of the town gossip

Grandma Tzeitel

Female Presenting; able to play 50s-70s
Vocal Range: C#4-D5

Golde’s grandmother. Will also play Rifka, a mama in the ensemble.

Fruma-Sarah

Female Presenting; able to play 30s-50s
Vocal Range: C4-Eb5

Lazar Wolf’s first wife; very protective of her belongings and of Lazar Wolf. Will also play Mirala, a mama in the ensemble. Actress needs to be willing to be flown above the stage.

Shaindel

Female Presenting; able to play 40s-50s
Motel’s mother; a widow.

Motel

Male Presenting; able to play early 20s
Vocal Range: E3-F#4

A tailor; humble, an honest, hard worker; Tevye intimidates him.

Perchik

Male Presenting; able to play early 20s
Vocal Range: B2-E4

A student at the University of Kiev and also a teacher; well versed in the Torah. Probably a member of a young Jewish revolutionary group.

Mendel

Male Presenting; able to play 20s-30s
The Rabbi’s son; very committed to his religion; somewhat fanatical. Will also be a bottle dancer at the wedding.

Yussel

Male Presenting; able to play 20s-40s
The Hatter (one who makes hats). Will also be a bottle dancer at the wedding.

Fyedka

Male Presenting; able to play early 20s
Russian policeman; in love with Chava. Believes himself to be a pleasant fellow, honest, ambitious and very modest.

Sasha

Male Presenting; able to play 20s-30s
Russian policeman; prejudiced.

Constable

Male Presenting; able to play 40s-60s
Is a decent person; does what is needed so the Inspector will think he has done his duty.

Fiddler

Any Presentation; any age
Accomplished violinist. We would like the fiddle to be played live each night. To allow this character to interact in the scenes required and stay in line with the customs of play, this role will be presented as male, but could be played by male or female presenting individuals. To audition, please submit a violin selection in the style of the show that shows your skill level.

Ensemble

Male and Female Presenting
Looking for additional cast members to play daughters, sons, bottle dancers, and Russians. Including two younger boys (9-16) to play potential suitors for Tevye’s youngest daughters.
