Automation Programmer/Operator
Location: The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater, Pleasant Grove, Utah

Compensation: $20.00/hr

Job Summary: The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is seeking a skilled and experienced Automation Programmer/Operator to join our production team. The Automation Programmer / Operator will be responsible for programming and operating stage automation systems for rehearsals and performances. This role requires a deep understanding of stage automation technology, strong technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to ensure the safe and efficient execution of all automated elements in our productions.
Responsibilities:
Programming:
- Program and configure stage automation systems, including winches, turntables, o lifts, and other automated scenery.
- Develop and maintain show control files, ensuring precise and reliable operation during performances.
- Collaborate with designers and technical staff to implement automation cues and sequences.
Operation:
- Operate automation systems during rehearsals and performances, ensuring smooth and accurate execution of all cues.
- Monitor the performance of automation systems in real-time, making adjustments as necessary.
- Conduct pre-show checks and diagnostics to ensure all systems are functioning correctly.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform regular maintenance and inspections of automation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise with automation systems.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when operating and maintaining automation systems.
- Ensure all automation operations comply with industry safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for crew members as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Head of Automation & Rigging, technical staff, and stage management to coordinate automation operations.
- Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, and note sessions as required.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to improve automation design and operations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education Requirements: High School Diploma required Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience in Job Type: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in stage automation programming and operation.
- Skills Required:
- Proficiency with automation control systems (e.g., Creative Connors, Stage Technologies, TAIT Navigator, ETC Eos).
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems related to stage automation.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required by production schedules.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy automation equipment.
Compensation Guidelines:
- Position Type: Part-Time, approx. 20 hours per work
- Hours to work: Varies basedon production needs, but will mostly be done during evenings/Saturdays to support performances
