A Christmas Carol 2025 Audition Notice
The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is pleased to announce auditions for A Christmas Carol! Auditions will be held by video submission only. Specific details regarding video submission are below. Along with completing the Audition Form, please send your audition videos along with a headshot and resume to auditions@theruth.org no
later than Monday, June 9, 2025 at 11:59 pm to be considered for
callbacks. All roles are paid- see the audition form for specifics.
Step into the enchanting world of Charles Dickens with a stunning new staging of the beloved holiday tradition. Join Scrooge on a redemptive journey through time alongside the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Grab a cup of wassail and celebrate the holidays in style!

A Note About Casting
At The Ruth & Nathan Hale Theater we seek to honor the authors intent pertaining to each our productions. We care deeply about casting in a way where everyone feels respected, supported, safe and welcomed.
We invite anyone and everyone to audition for any and all of our productions, regardless of any physical attribute, gender, race, age, ability, ethnicity, or experience. All are welcome at The Ruth.
Character Descriptions
All roles are available and will be double cast. We are looking for a diverse cast with a variety of body types.
Ebeneezer Scrooge
Male Presenting; able to play 50+
Singing Role
An old miser driven by greed. He has no sympathy for the poor, does nothing to any individual person in need nor his greater community, and thinks it is foolish to celebrate Christmas.
Ghost of Jacob Marley / Undertaker
Male Presenting; able to play 40+
Singing Role
Scrooge’s former business partner, now a ghost; he has been dead for seven years. Marley never turned from his selfish, heartless ways, and his spirit now wanders the earth in chains as punishment. Actor doubles as Undertaker.
Ghost of Christmas Past / Turkey Child / Street Urchin
Male or Female Presenting; able to play 9-12
Singing Role
A benevolent spirit who conjures up scenes from Scrooge’s past to show him the events that led to his current state. Actor doubles as Turkey Child & Street Urchin.
Ghost of Christmas Present / Old Joe
Male Presenting; able to play 30+
Singing Role
A jovial, larger-than-life ghost who comes back to show Scrooge all the joy, love, and celebration he his missing out on while those around him celebrate Christmas. Actor doubles as Old Joe.
Bob Cratchit
Male Presenting; able to play 30s-40s
Singing Role
Scrooge’s overworked and underpaid clerk. Money is tight for him and his family, but they find strength in their love for each other and their hope for the future.
Mrs. Cratchit
Female Presenting; able to play 30s-40s
Non-Singing Role
Bob’s beloved wife. She takes care of their children, working hard to stretch her husband’s small salary to pay for their needs. She resents Scrooge for his stinginess.
Martha Cratchit
Female Presenting; able to play late teens-early 20s
Non-Singing Role
Bob Cratchit’s oldest child who has moved out but who makes it home for Christmas, knowing how important it is to the family. Happy, confident, and extremely kind to her younger siblings.
Peter Cratchit / Boy Scrooge
Male Presenting; able to play early to late teens
Non-Singing Role
Bob Cratchit’s oldest son, on the brink of adulthood but not quite there yet. Actor also plays Boy Scrooge.
Belinda Cratchit
Female Presenting; able to play 8-12
Non-Singing Role
Bob Cratchit’s younger daughter.
Little Fan / Carol Cratchit / Want
Female Presenting; able to play 7-10
Non-Singing Role
Scrooge’s sister and later, Fred’s mother. Her warmth is such that she can make even Boy Scrooge’s saddest day better. Actor also plays Carol Cratchit & Want.
Tiny Tim Cratchit / Ignorance
Male Presenting; able to play 5-8
Non-Singing Role
The young son of Bob Cratchit. Weak and crippled, but full of true goodness and hope. More than anyone, Tiny Tim embodies the Christmas Spirit. Actor also plays Ignorance.
Fred
Male Presenting; able to play 20s-30s
Non-Singing Role
Scrooge's nephew and only living relative. He is a pleasant young man who believes in the good a joyful Christmas spirit can make in the world.
Fred's Wife / Charwoman
Female Presenting; able to play 20s-30s
Non-Singing Role
Fred’s better half, confident and strong, a modern woman who isn’t afraid to let her voice be heard. Actor also plays Charwoman. Singing Role.
Topper / Solicitor #1
Male Presenting; able to play 20s-30s
Non-Singing Role
Fred’s somewhat rowdy but entertaining friend. Actor also plays Solicitor #1.
Topper's Girl
Female Presenting; able to play 20s
Non-Singing Role
A guest at Fred’s party and the object of Topper’s affections.
Young Scrooge
Male Presenting; able to play late teens-early 20s
Singing Role
A handsome, young version of Scrooge. A romantic who dreams of a life with Belle, but is obsessed with becoming rich.
Belle
Female Presenting; able to play late teens-early 20s
Singing Role
Scrooge's boyhood sweetheart, she is sweet and flirtatious. She is a beautiful girl, not impressed or in need of money.
Dick Wilkins
Male Presenting; able to play late teens-early 20s
Non-Singing Role
Young Scrooge’s best friend, an outgoing and confident young man.
Fezziwig / Solicitor #2
Male Presenting; able to play 40s-60s
Non-Singing Role
Scrooge's first boss. He is a kind, generous man who holds a wonderful Christmas party every year for his employees. Actor doubles as Solicitor #2.
Mrs. Fezziwig / Laundress
Female Presenting; able to play 40s-60s
Singing Role
The consummate hostess and Mr. Fezziwig's wife, she loved to help throw the Christmas party every year. Actor doubles as Laundress.

Octet of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass: Serve as characters in the play in select scenes in addition to using their beautiful voices as singing storytellers; various ages.
