Documentary theatre making - real life stories brought to life onstage to inspire action and change. It’s a popular form of storytelling with box office hits including Hamilton and Come from Away. But what about our own life stories? Do those stories have a place on stage? Can an actor find more honesty in their work by learning how to tell the stories that hit close to home? Yes, yes, and yes! Join us each Saturday in March to learn how to turn family stories into family history mini plays. This adult acting lab will begin with a free Sunday evening performance (Sunday March 1st at 6pm - The Ruth) of Carolyn Hartvigsen’s one-woman family history play, My Dead: An Immigrant's Story, which has been performed in London, England; Oxford, England; North American, and Norway. The following Saturday (March 7th) the Adult Acting Lab begins with a talk back on the play and direction on how to find the family stories that participants will bring to life the following three Saturdays of March. Participants in March’s adult acting lab will learn how to find their own family stories and develop an artistic practice for bringing these stories to life. You can choose to register as a performer or as an observer who will also learn the process. Join us for this unique and exciting Adult Acting Lab during *Utah’s Family History Month.
