Position Summary:

The Facilities Technician plays a critical role in ensuring The Ruth operates safely, efficiently, and reliably for thousands of patrons, artists, students, and staff. This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining and repairing building systems— including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, and building automation—while supporting the facilities team with event readiness, preventive maintenance, and emergency response. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Operations & Maintenance

  • Monitor, maintain, and repair HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Oversee building automation systems (BMS) and adjust settings for performance and energy efficiency.  
  • Ensure life safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting) remain fully operational.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

  • Implement and track preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, service logs, and compliance documentation. 

Support for Theater Operations

  • Collaborate with production and events teams to ensure facilities are show- ready.
  • Provide technical support during performances, rehearsals, and special events as needed.
  • Assist with set-up, teardown, and special facility requests.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with building codes, OSHA standards, and local regulations.
  • Participate in safety inspections and emergency response protocols.
  • Promote a culture of safety across the facilities team.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Facilities Director, custodial staff, and external contractors.
  • Provide guidance and support for junior facilities staff when needed.
  • Assist with vendor management and oversight of outsourced maintenance services. 

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience in building operations, facilities maintenance, or engineering  (theater/arts venue experience a plus). 
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC (Boiler / Chiller system), mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire/life safety systems. 
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BMS) and energy management. 
  • Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys preferred. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. 
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in varied physical environments (rooftops, mechanical rooms, etc.). 
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts in support of theater operations. 

Preferred Certifications

  • HVAC or Electrical license (Utah).
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Certified Building Engineer (CBE) or equivalent.
  • OSHA 10/30 or other safety training. 

Compensation Guidelines:
Position Type:
Full-Time, Salaried; Exempt
Hours to Work: 40hrs. per week
Annual Compensation: $70,000-75,000 (based on experience)
