About The Ruth
Why is the theater named “The Ruth”?
The theater is named after Ruth Hale, one of the original founders of the Hale theaters. Together with her husband, Nathan, they created the first Hale theater in Glendale California in 1947 and were both gifted actors and tireless advocates of making theater accessible to all audiences in their communities. The theater proudly honors their legacy and serves to remind audiences of the positive impact their lifetime of work continues to have.

Supporting The Ruth
How does The Ruth support our community?
The Ruth supports the Utah arts community in numerous ways: by offering exceptional theater experiences appropriate for all audiences, right here in the heart of Utah County—a short drive from both Salt Lake County and the university cities of Provo and Orem. The theater focuses on accessible-priced tickets to exceptional caliber productions, plus The Ruth Academy offers world-class arts education for youth and adults. The theater also employs hundreds of full- and part-time employees in a number of capacities. This beautiful venue offers meeting and events facilities for corporate partners, independent donors and patrons, as well as deep discounts to support other non-profit organizations, government, association, and education partners.
Why does The Ruth need donations? Aren’t my ticket purchases enough?
While ticket sales cover a good portion of our operations, donations are essential to the viability of our organization! The generosity of donors keep ticket prices affordable, help build sets and costumes, pay artists and crew, supports youth education at The Ruth Academy, and keep our building and equipment beautiful and open to the community. We are so grateful to our patrons who buy tickets faithfully, and to those who volunteer as ushers and advocates in the community, as well as those who support us with monetary contributions. Every contribution makes a difference and is vital to the future of performing arts in our community.
