Get Fully Immersed in The Addams Family

What happens when the world’s most unconventional family finds itself face-to-face with the ultimate test of normalcy? Audiences are invited to find out as The Addams Family comes to life on a newly reimagined stage at The Ruth Theater.

When Wednesday Addams falls in love with a young man from a respectable, ordinary family, she finds herself facing a dilemma: can her new romance survive the collision of her whacky family with her boyfriend’s normal one? As the families come together for an unforgettable dinner, the Addamses and their guests discover that love, honesty, and acceptance may be more powerful than any family’s definition of normal.

“At its heart, this is a story about love, family, and the courage to be authentically yourself,” said director Jennifer Hill Barlow. “We all carry quirks, imperfections, and perspectives that make us unique. Yet so often we spend our lives trying to fit into someone else’s idea of ‘normal.’”

Through the Addams family’s unapologetic embrace of their individuality, the musical offers a message that extends far beyond its delightfully dark setting.

“They don’t love each other despite their differences. They love each other because of them,” Barlow said. “The things that make us different are often the very things that make us extraordinary.”

For this production, The Ruth has taken an exciting step beyond traditional stage design, reimagining its performance space to bring audiences further into the world of the Addams family, and onto the stage. Select audience members will be a part of the action, and the stage has been expanded and redesigned to create a fully immersive experience into the world of the Addams Family.

“This production marks an exciting first for our theater,” Barlow said. “Rather than simply building a set, we reimagined our entire performance space. Every choice was designed to draw you deeper into their world because that’s what we believe theater should do.”

The immersive design reflects The Ruth’s commitment to creating experiences that allow audiences to engage with stories in new and meaningful ways.

With its memorable music, outrageous humor, imaginative design, and heartfelt message, The Addams Family offers audiences an evening of entertainment for the whole family.

“Every family has its own brand of strange,” Barlow said, “and maybe that’s exactly what makes them special.”
