Director's Note
By Amelia Rose Moore
Welcome to the wonderful undersea world of Finding Nemo Jr.! At its heart, this story is about much more than a fish lost in the ocean. It is about friendship, inclusion, courage, and the delicate balance between holding on and letting go.
Marlin begins this journey gripped by fear — fear of loss, fear of change, fear of a world that feels too big and too unpredictable. As parents, mentors, teachers, and leaders, we understand that instinct to protect. But one of the greatest acts of love is learning when to loosen our grip. Growing up requires risk. It requires space. It requires trust.
Nemo longs for independence. She wants to prove she is capable — not defined by size, age, or perceived limitations. Her journey reminds us that our differences are not weaknesses. They are strengths. In a world that often highlights what makes us “other,” Finding Nemo Jr. celebrates inclusion and belonging. From Dory’s boundless optimism to the Tank Gang’s resilience, each character brings something unique to the reef — and it is only together that they thrive.
Friendship anchors this story. Dory teaches Marlin to “just keep swimming,” but more importantly, she teaches him to open his heart. True friendship invites growth. It challenges fear. It offers grace. It reminds us we are never meant to navigate the ocean alone.
For our young performers, this show has mirrored many of these same themes. Theatre is a place where we learn to collaborate, to listen, to support one another, and to step bravely into the spotlight — sometimes before we feel entirely ready. We have watched these students grow in confidence, empathy, and resilience. They have learned to trust themselves and each other.
As you watch today’s performance, I invite you to see beyond the colorful coral and playful sea creatures. See the courage it takes to let someone you love grow. See the beauty in differences. See the power of community. I am endlessly proud of this cast and crew for going on this adventure with me. Thank you, thank you!
And if life ever feels overwhelming, remember Dory’s simple but profound advice:
Just keep swimming.
