Fiddler on the Roof: A Timeless Classic
The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is proud to present Fiddler on the Roof - the timeless classic explores tradition, change, and the impact that balance has on family, faith, and identity.
Set in a historically based Russian village, the musical follows Tevye and his family as they navigate rising antisemitism, generational conflict, and the challenge of preserving identity in a rapidly changing world.
“Fiddler on the Roof is a story that forces us to challenge our relationships and our ability to connect when we hold on to things too tightly,” reflects director Barta Heiner. “This musical asks us to consider how love, family, and faith are tested when the world around us is uncertain.”
The story’s portrayal of displacement and division underscores how easily fear can separate people, while also revealing how compassion, understanding, and shared values can bridge those divides.
“Even today, intolerance and prejudice persist,” notes Heiner. “Stories like this remind us to look for what we share with one another rather than what divides us. It is about honoring tradition while remaining open to change, and recognizing that our shared humanity is what binds us most deeply.”
With its iconic music, timeless story, and thoughtful reflection on identity and moral responsibility, Fiddler on the Roof promises to resonate with audiences today as profoundly as it has for generations—a reminder of the enduring power of storytelling to inspire understanding and connection.
Fiddler on the Roof runs nightly in the Scott and Karen Smith Grand Theater from February 2–March 21, 2026.
